Bankole’s EFCC trial case continues today
The trial of former Speaker of the House
of Representatives Dimeji Bankole will continue today before an Abuja
Federal High Court. Bankole was charged on 16 counts of contract fraud
proffered against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC).
He pleaded not guilty to all counts. Justice Donatus Okorowo had at
the last sitting warned prosecuting counsel in the matter to handle the
case promptly and in line with the rules of court.
He gave the warning after counsel to the EFCC, Oghenovo Otemu, who stood in for Festus Keyamo, asked for an adjournment to enable them assembles their witnesses.
Okorowo, who said it is not in the interest of justice for prosecution to hold the case for too long, also warned that he will not tolerate incessant adjournments.
He advised the EFCC counsels to discuss with their client so they can prosecute the matter properly.
